Split-the-Plate for December

SPLIT-THE-PLATE CHARITY FOR DECEMBER: Community Food Council in Huntington
The Split Plate charity for December is The Community Food Council in Huntington. Formed in 1972 by several area Protestant churches to help feed the community’s hungry, the Huntington Food Council is staffed by volunteers and sustained by donations.  The Food Council is considered an emergency food source, providing a critical support to local individuals and families. Our donations can help make a big difference close to home.

SPLIT-THE-PLATE RECIPIENT FOR CHRISTMAS EVE:  Unitarian Universalist Service Committee — Climate Justice

The Split Plate for our Christmas Eve Services is the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC).  For over 75 years, its innovative approach and measurable contributions have been grounded in the moral belief that all people have inherent power, dignity, and rights  As part of its many ongoing efforts to promote peace and justice in the world, the UUSC is currently focusing on Climate Justice in the South Pacific, where rising sea levels are causing land erosion.  In line with its established policy of grassroots “eye to eye” involvement, the UUSC is strategizing with and supporting partners and community members who overwhelmingly express the desire to stay and build protections against encroaching climate change impacts.  In addition, the UUSC is partnering with a local organization facilitating the first and only community-led relocation efforts in the region.  Please give generously to support the UUSC in promoting our Seven Principles.
