The UUFH unsung Hero Award, initiated in 1993, has been presented annually to Fellowshippers who spend countless hours at tasks that few people know about often over many years and decades. The awards are presented to two individuals, or sometimes a small group, at the Celebration Sunday each June which this year was Sunday, June 16.

The first award went to Gerri Farrell. Gerri has dedicated herself to serving the UUFH since she and her family became members. In the mid 1990s she was President of the Board of Trustees and then served as Board Secretary. She served on search committees that called our current minister and our current choir director, and for many years she has been the Co-Convener of the Pastoral Care Committee. Gerri has and still maintains the UUFH bookstall.

In her quiet dedicated and continuous efforts to serve and enrich our Fellowship, she is truly an Unsung Hero.

The second award went to Mary Sussman. Mary has shared her talents across the Fellowship in a variety of roles that support the Board, our minister, adults, children, youth, and the community. Mary served on the Committee on Ministry and search committees for our Minister and our Religious Education coordinator.  She is one of the core supporters of the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative. She has taught Sunday school over the past 15 years and served on the RE committee.

You cannot look around the Fellowship without seeing someone and something touched by the gifts of Mary Sussman.  Her kindness, and her generous spirit knows no limits.  She is the ultimate role model for all of us.
