Last week Helen Boxwill wrote about local organizations that need food or monetary donations. Those needs will continue, and we urge you to continue to support them if you are able. If you are receiving a stimulus check from the government and can afford to spend some or all of it on donations, here are more groups working to help those who are impacted by the virus:

The Family Service League is trying to mitigate the spread of the virus in our local shelters by housing infected people in motel rooms. You can send a check to the Family Service League at 790 Park Ave., Huntington, NY 11743. Be sure to write “Manorfield Direct Relief” on the memo line to ensure that it goes directly for housing and not for administrative costs.

The National Domestic Workers Alliance has set up a Coronavirus Care Fund to help in-home care workers, nannies and house cleaners–all low-income workers with no access to healthcare, paid sick leave or job security. To donate go to their website at www.domesticworkers.org.

Support medical workers who are in need of PPE by going to www.getusppe.org.

The UE Research and Education Fund is offering training and resources to workers affected by the health and economic crisis, helping them win the safety and economic protections they need. Go to www.ueref.org to donate.

The Movement for Black Lives COVID-19 Mutual Aid Fund is supporting communities in need through donations made at M4BL.org.

If you know of other groups working to mitigate the effects of the virus, please let us know by contacting Susan Karbiner at 631-560-1642 or jkarbiner@aol.com.
