SAVE THE DATE — Saturday September 17
for a virtual workshop sponsored by LIAC (Long Island Area Council): The 8th Principle: Building A Culture of Inclusion
with Paula Cole Jones

The 8th Principle, the proposed addition to our 7 UU Principles at this time is worded: We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant “to affirm and promote journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

About the workshop Paula writes: “We, Unitarian Universalists, are called to build the Beloved Community.  To do that, UUs must attend to the unfinished business of dismantling racism and oppression in our congregations and Association and with our community partners.  How do we stand in solidarity with the social movements of our times and how do they change us?  The goals of the workshop are to share a framework for how collaboration and accountability shapes the racial and social justice history of institutions in the United States and of UU congregations and to engage LIAC participants in an interactive experience of the transformative power of the 8th Principle.”

This workshop is for all congregations:
— those who have already endorsed the 8th Principle and are figuring out how to implement it
— those who are working to endorse it
— those who have not yet begun to consider the 8th Principle

Registration — will open on Aug 15

$50 with LIAC offering a 50% scholarship to members of LI congregations
