The UUFH is governed by its members in a system called modified policy governance.
The congregation votes on the members of its 9-member Board of Trustees, selecting 3 new members annually for three-year terms. The board is responsible for developing policies, overseeing fiscal management and stewardship, maintaining the building and grounds, and setting strategic priorities.
The congregation calls a settled minister who works for the congregation. The minister is the chief of staff, responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating the staff. The minister has overall responsibility for Worship, Membership, Religious Education, and Social Justice, the ministry areas of the congregation.
There are 9 key committees that carry out the work of ministry and governance and oversee the subcommittees and teams of the congregation. There is also a nominating committee that proposes a slate each year that reports directly to the congregation.
