Rev. Debra has been a Unitarian Universalist minister for more than 20 years. She has served UU congregations in Westport, CT, Reston, VA, and Santa Cruz County, CA. She has been the executive director of two national not-for-profit organizations, and she has worked closely with the UUA and the UUMA on the development of materials on sexual safety in congregations, professional sexual misconduct prevention, and sexuality training for UU ministers and religious educators. Rev. Debra is the author or co-author of seven books, including “From Diapers to Dating: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Sexually Healthy Children,” which has been translated into 12 languages. She holds a doctorate from the Pacific School of Religion and Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, a Master’s in Public Health from the Yale School of Medicine, and a BA from Wesleyan University. Her work has been honored by such diverse organizations as the UU Women’s Federation, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Union Theological Seminary, and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. In 2023, Rev. Debra was awarded the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the World Association of Sexology. Rev. Debra served as an early consultant on the development of the OWL program, the Guidelines Committee of the UUMA, and on the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee.
